Cabin des Dix

Cabane des Dix sits at 2,928m in the Valais Alps, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Reach it from Euseigne (Arolla valley) in around 5 hours on foot. The approach follows the Dixence glacier basin with a steady climb through rocky terrain. Summer snow can linger on the upper sections until late June. Most parties also approach from Italy via the Théodule Pass or from Evolène—check conditions before committing to a route.

The hut is run by SAC (Section Monte Rosa) and holds 115 beds across multiple dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily: expect substantial dinners and packed lunches for onward trips. Drinking water is available on-site. There is no self-catering kitchen, so you eat what the hut provides or bring your own food. The hut operates year-round, though winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness. This is a working mountaineering base—expect serious climbers and a focus on early starts and Alpine routes rather than casual hiking.
