Cabin des Vignettes CAS

Cabane des Vignettes sits at 3160m in the Mont Rosa massif, above the Glacier de Moiry in Valais. Reach it from Grimentz (1570m) via the Moiry valley in 4–5 hours, crossing alpine meadows then moraine to the hut. Most climbers approach from Zermatt via the Col de Tête Blanche (3724m), a 6–7 hour traverse that avoids the lower valley entirely. This second approach puts you already acclimatised for Mont Rosa ascents.
The hut holds 125 beds in multi-share rooms. SAC/CAS runs the place with full catering available, though self-catering is possible if you bring your own provisions and use the kitchen. Water comes directly from the glacier melt. The hut operates year-round but is fully staffed from June to September. Winter visits require pre-arrangement and can be heavily weather-dependent. Mountaineers use it as a launch point for Mont Rosa, Monte Leone, and Breithorn. The location also works for serious hiking if you're traversing the Tour du Mont Rose.
Book directly with the hut via email or phone. Summer weekends and July–August fill 6–8 weeks ahead, especially if you're arriving as part of a guided group or large party. Off-season (October–May) has spaces available but confirm opening hours first. Half-board costs less than purchasing meals separately, so budget accordingly if you plan to cook some meals yourself.
