Refuge du Lac Blanc

Refuge du Lac Blanc sits at 2,352m on the eastern shore of Lac Blanc in the Valais Alps. The standard approach is from Arolla village: take the footpath via Les Juliens (about 3 hours). You can also reach it from Evolène via the Col de la Forclaz route (5–6 hours). Winter access is difficult and the hut closes seasonally, so check opening dates before planning. The setting puts you on established routes to Mont Collon, Pigne d'Arolla, and the Pas de Chèvres crossing toward Chamonix.
The hut has 40 beds split across shared dormitories. Meals are served daily—order dinner and breakfast the evening before. Showers and flush toilets are available, though water is from the lake and surrounding streams. There is no WiFi. The hut opens from June through September in normal years, with a shorter shoulder season depending on snow conditions. The refuge is privately run and independent of the SAC network.
Email or phone the hut directly to reserve. Book at least 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August; June and September are less crowded. July weekends fill quickly. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a hot meal and settle in before dark. Payment is typically cash (Swiss francs) or by bank transfer after booking—confirm methods when you reserve.
