About

Halseralm sits at 1,456m in the Tennengebirge massif, south of Salzburg. Reach it from Adnet village by hiking 2 hours via the steep Halsertal valley. The route gains 800m through mixed forest and opens onto alpine pasture. An alternative approach from Abtenau via Rinnkendlsteig takes 3 hours but is less direct. The hut works as a hub for ridge walks east to Hochkönig (2,941m) or west towards the Tennen peaks.
Halseralm is a working alpine dairy farm offering simple food and drinks. The hut sleeps around 30 across basic dormitory rooms. Meals are hearty and straightforward—order lunch or dinner when you arrive. Water comes from the mountain spring. Opening runs mid-May through October, with reduced service outside July and August. The setting is quiet and pastoral rather than social. Phone ahead if arriving outside peak season.
Book beds 1-2 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone (details on alpine-huts.com directory). Arrive by early afternoon to secure beds and allow time for meals. The hut is not managed by OeAV but independently operated. June and September are less crowded and equally good for ridge walking.
