Bergeralm

Bergeralm sits at 1,850m on the Zillertal valley floor in Tyrol, on the approach to the Zillertal Alps. You reach it in 1.5 hours from Mayrhofen by hiking south through mixed forest and meadow. The hut is also accessible in 2 hours from the Rastkogel cable car station, which cuts out significant elevation gain. Both routes are straightforward hiking paths suitable for anyone in reasonable fitness.

The hut has 60 beds across multiple rooms and offers half-board meals, with a strong focus on local Tyrolean cooking. The dining room has views into the valley. Bergeralm operates year-round, though it closes Mondays and Tuesdays during shoulder seasons (May and October-November). It sits on a working farm, so expect a working alpine environment rather than a purely tourist facility. Basic facilities include a small bar and drying room. Electricity and water are available but this is not a high-comfort refuge.

Book directly by phone or email 4-6 weeks ahead for summer weekends and July-August. The hut is popular with families using the farm setup and day hikers, so midweek is quieter. Winter access depends on snow conditions and you should contact ahead. The Zillertal bus service runs regularly to Mayrhofen for connections to the region. This works well as a base for exploring the lower Zillertal hiking network or as a night stop on longer traverses heading into higher alpine terrain.
