Thurneralm

Thurneralm sits at 1,850m on the eastern flank of the Zillertal, reached via the village of Mayrhofen. From Mayrhofen, hike 2.5 hours on well-marked trail 532 through mixed forest and alpine meadow to the hut. The final approach crosses open pasture with views toward the Ziller Valley. Summer hikers use this as a base for forays into the Zillertal Alps. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk.
The hut is a traditional family-run operation with 25 beds in simple dormitory and double rooms. Meals are Austrian mountain fare: schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn, Tiroler Gröstl, and vegetarian options. The kitchen handles dietary requirements if notified in advance. Full board costs around €55–65 per person nightly. The hut has a small shop stocking basic supplies and drinks. No shower, but washbasins are available. Open June through September; winter operation depends on snow access. The hut accepts cash and card payments.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. July and August are busiest; mid-June and September offer quieter alternatives. The hut fills with local hikers on weekends year-round. Confirm opening dates before planning a winter visit, as avalanche conditions and snow depth dictate access. Bring sturdy boots; the trail can be muddy after rain despite good maintenance.
