Feldele

Feldele sits at 940m in the Zillertal valley, a straightforward walk from the village of Schwendau. The hut lies on the main hiking route up the Zillertal, giving it solid access to day walks and through-hikes. Reach it in 45 minutes on foot from Schwendau or by mountain bike via the valley trail. Most hikers use it as a base for exploring the lower Zillertal rather than as an overnight stop en route to higher peaks.

The hut is a working farm guesthouse, not an Alpine Club refuge. It sleeps around 25 guests and serves home-cooked food—expect hearty Tyrolean standards rather than mountain fare. The setting is pastoral, with views across farmland toward the valley sides. Water and toilets are reliable. The hut opens year-round but is quietest in November and April. Summer weekends fill with family groups and local day-walkers from Mayrhofen. Winter brings fewer visitors but check conditions before a winter trip.

Book direct by phone or email several weeks ahead for July and August. The hut fills more from foot traffic than advance planning, so a call a few days before often works outside peak season. Arrive early on Saturday and Sunday in summer if you're not booked. The hut is informal—payment in cash is preferred.
