Bierleinhütte

The Bierleinhütte sits at 1,926m in the Allgäuer Alps near the Vorarlberg–Bavaria border. Reach it from the village of Schoppernau in the Bregenzerwald. From the trailhead at Hochkrumbach (about 1,400m), the main approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours via the Schöpperbach valley, gaining 530m steadily through forest and alpine meadow. Winter approaches are possible but require mountain experience and avalanche awareness. The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV).

The Bierleinhütte provides 20 beds in simple dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard; dinner and breakfast use local ingredients including fresh bread baked on-site. The hut has no electricity, heating via wood stove, and water from a mountain spring—basic facilities suit mountaineers planning high routes rather than comfort seekers. Open from mid-June through September, it serves as a base for traverses toward the Säntis massif and day walks in the surrounding Vorarlberg hills. The custodian-run operation keeps standards high despite minimal infrastructure.

The hut fills quickly with guided mountaineering groups, so confirm availability before committing to a multi-day trip. Access to the valley may be restricted during heavy snow or maintenance work—check conditions before departure.
