Chalet Alpin l'Eychauda

Chalet Alpin l'Eychauda sits at 1,267m in the Hautes-Alpes, on the edge of Parc National des Écrins. The hut serves as a base for day walks and multi-day treks across the park's lower valleys. Access from the village of Ancelle takes 45 minutes to 1 hour on foot. The approach is straightforward and suitable for walkers of all levels.
The chalet holds 76 beds in mixed and smaller rooms. Meals are served communal-style at fixed times—dinner and breakfast are included with overnight stays. The kitchen prepares generous portions and caters to dietary requirements if notified in advance. Hot showers and dry storage for boots are standard. The hut operates year-round, though weekday staffing is minimal outside July and August. This is a walker's hut, not a mountaineer's base, with a relaxed atmosphere and strong local links through its FFCAM management.
Book directly by phone with the guardian. July and August fill quickly; aim to call 4–6 weeks ahead for these months. May through June and September offer quieter conditions and easier availability. The hut is accessible by car, so weekend traffic from nearby towns can be heavy. Weekday visits are calmer. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; packed lunches can be arranged the evening before.
