Mittelbergalpe

Mittelbergalpe sits at 1,369m in the Allgäu Alps, reached from Oberstdorf via the Stillachtal valley. The approach takes 2 hours on a well-marked trail that gains 500m steadily through mixed forest. The hut occupies a small clearing where several valley routes converge, making it a natural rest point for day hikers and a practical base for ridge walks across the mid-altitude Allgäu peaks.
The hut has 24 beds in mixed dormitories and a handful of doubles. Meals focus on hearty Bavarian food—expect roast, Käsespätzle, and soup. Water comes from a spring nearby. The building is simple, heated in cold months, and open year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and weather. Facilities are basic: no shower, but a washroom and toilet. The hut is not staffed by permanent residents, so self-catering is an option if you bring supplies.
