Rifugio Passo Principe - Grasleitenpasshütte

Rifugio Passo Principe sits at 2,601m on the Grasleitenpass between the Zillertal and Ötztal valleys in the Austrian Ötztal. Reach it from the north via Sölden (3 hours from the village), or from the south via Vent (2.5 hours). Both routes are well-marked trail walks with moderate elevation gain. The hut lies on the main ridge traverse crossing the Ötztal Alps, making it a logical stop for multi-day tours connecting the two valleys.
The hut offers 50 beds in mixed and private rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast included) is standard and covers basic but adequate mountain fare. The hut has reliable water supply and composting toilets. It operates from June through September, closing in winter when the pass is snowbound. Book 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut accepts reservations by phone or email. July weekends fill completely. Early June and September are quieter and offer the best chances of same-day spots. The hut is popular with trekking groups and families doing the Ötztal valley crossing, so plan accordingly.
