Rifugio Padon

Rifugio Padon sits at 2,407m in the Dolomites, on the Passo Ghedina pass between Cortina d'Ampezzo and the Tre Croci area. Most hikers reach it from Cortina in 2.5–3 hours via a steady climb through mixed terrain. The hut also serves as a waypoint for longer routes through the Sorapis massif and connections to nearby rifugios like Auronzo and Ra Gusela. Access is straightforward on marked paths—no scrambling required.
The rifugio holds around 60 beds across shared dormitory rooms and smaller private quarters. Meals focus on local mountain food: hearty pasta, polenta, and Dolomite specialities. The bar serves espresso and grappa. Facilities include basic shower access and a drying room. The hut operates year-round, though services thin out outside the June–September hiking season and winter sports months. Views from the terrace look directly across to Sorapis and the surrounding peaks.
Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends and July–August. July and August weekends fill completely—aim for 4–6 weeks' notice then. Smaller groups and weekday visits find space more easily. The hut accepts cash and cards. It's a solid base for day walks into the Tre Croci area or as an overnight stop on multi-day ridge traverses.
