Majerca

Majerca sits at 1,500m in the Julian Alps, accessed from the Jeglič valley near Radovljica. The approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours on foot from the village of Kropa, following marked trails through beech forest and alpine meadow. The hut works as a base for day walks across the ridge system and longer traverses linking the central Julian peaks.
The hut is small, with capacity for around 40 people in mixed dormitories. PZS and PD Jeglič (the local Jeglič hiking club) run the facility. Meals are available when staffed—expect simple mountain food rather than a restaurant. A water source runs year-round. The hut typically opens from May through October, though weekends attract hikers outside this window; check directly before planning a winter visit.
Book directly with the hut manager. In peak season (July and August) book 3 to 4 weeks ahead. The hut fills quickly on weekends and Slovenian school holidays.
