Cabin Michela Motterascio

Capanna Michela Motterascio sits at 2172m in the Ticino Alps, above the Val Maggia. Reach it from Robiei (1950m) in 2.5 hours on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through alpine meadow and sparse larch. The hut lies on the route between Monte Rosa and the southern Swiss peaks, making it a logical stopping point for multi-day traverses across Ticino's high country.

The SAC Ticino section runs this 72-bed hut year-round. Half-board is the standard arrangement: the kitchen serves dinner and breakfast using local Ticinese ingredients when possible. The self-catering kitchen lets you prepare lunch or lighter meals independently. Hot showers are available—a genuine luxury at this elevation. Drinking water comes from mountain sources. The hut fills quickly in July and August, especially on weekends. June, September, and early October offer better availability and quieter conditions. Spring and late autumn are open but weather-dependent.
